Tour includes four story stations around Downtown

Dublin, GA  April 20th, 2017

Visit Dublin GA announced the launch of a new 71 site mobile app during the reveal of Dublin’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Monument Park.  Developed in partnership with Laurens County Historical Society and Dublin Downtown Development Authority, the new Downtown Dublin Walking Tour mobile app highlights 71 sites throughout downtown each with historic photography from the archives of Dublin historian Scott Thompson.

The Art of Storytelling

Launched alongside the mobile app, Visit Dublin GA announced the creation of four audio stations recounting sixteen stories at four historic downtown sites: Martin Luther King, Jr. Monument Park, the Old Post Office, Old City Cemetery, and Dublin Carnegie. The Downtown Dublin Mobile & Audio Tour, funded by a $10,000 Tourism Product Development Grant awarded from the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Tourism Division and sponsored by Fairview Park Hospital, bring new life to the history and culture of Dublin.

Mobile App

This state of the art mobile app includes a dynamic look at 71 historic landmarks, sites and buildings in Dublin’s city center. Featuring a collection of historic photography of each location from the archives of local historian Scott Thompson, this tour gives visitors an in-depth look at the history and culture that shaped the history and architecture in Dublin. A previous print version walking tour, detailing forty locations is now being expanded to seventy-one, including Dudley Motel, which at one time was a meeting place and overnight accommodations  for civil rights champions, including Martin Luther King, Jr.

Miriam Lewis

Once upon a time, a serial reader of Little Women and Little House On The Prairie, Miriam Lewis has harnessed her love of great storytelling, beautiful photography, and good people, and bundled it into a big package that is Executive Director of Visit Dublin GA. As a destination veteran Miriam joined Visit Dublin GA in 2015. She oversees Dublin Visitors Center operations & staff and Dublin and Laurens County’s marketing communications while leading strategic initiatives to maintain and strengthen the tourism industry in Dublin. Her favorite work hobbies include making good old fashioned paper lists (plural), reminding staff to take their breaks (they sometimes listen), quality checking local eats (she’ll quickly suggest goat curry or tongue tacos), and building relationships which become links in partnership across the state, boosting an economic engine for the Laurens County community.
