Hometown Wanderlust is an adventurous, weekly blog featuring one girl’s experiences with food, music, shopping, history, art and life in general around Dublin GA. This week, Dublin GA’s favorite redhead explores treasures at Dublin International Market. fullsizer

There’s a new business in town, the name stuck interest so on a morning when the to-do list was only half full, so I took a break from the humdrum to see what it was all about.

Walking in the doors, immediately the scent of the past floods in. Old, well-polished wood, coffee and dog eared book pages swirl in a comforting waft. There’s a “self-serve tea station” just inside the doors that give a nod to simpler days when we slowed down and truly enjoyed a few moments of the finer things.

Pieces of eye catching art adorn a wall to the right, various artists, different styles, all stunning in their own right. I wonder what the stories are, what moment inspired each stroke in front of me.

I linger momentarily over a beautiful antique case full of sparkling jewels, assorted colors and sizes once cherished and passed down, grandmother to mother to daughter and now resting proudly in full glitz waiting to catch the eye of a passerby.

There’s a little sitting area, the plump couch calling to me to sit a spell and enjoy a warm cup of comfort but I’m here to explore…

Sparkling crystal serving plates were probably once a housewife’s absolute pride. There’s a tiny, genuine suede cowgirl outfit hanging up that catches my eye. I run my fingers over the delicate fringe of the tiny vest imagining the elation of a five-year old’s Christmas or birthday surprise.

Each novelty that I pass by sits quietly on it’s shelf arranged to look it’s best next to another item, all from different homes, different eras, each one once gifted with love or purchased with hard earned dollars.

Everything in life comes full circle…those items we just MUST have one day…ugh…within no time can become our burdens. But how beautiful it is when we can look back, pick something up and truly appreciate it once again.

The holidays are coming! Spread cheer with something to cherish from Dublin International Market!
