Housed in the Laurens County Library, the Dublin-Laurens Heritage Center collects, preserves and makes accessible genealogical and historical information. The Heritage Center has grown significantly in the recent years to a beautiful area that holds an increasingly impressive collection with an unrushed, relaxing atmosphere. The Center offers internet access, interlibrary loan services and research assistance. The Heritage Center also provides workshops and programs designed to build knowledge in using the resources of the Heritage Center.
History & Genealogy
Collections include all of the surviving federal census records and indexes released to date for the state of Georgia, including the 1820 through 1930 Georgia census, printed indexes for 1820 through 1870 and the Soundex Index for 1880 through 1930. Microfilmed court records and newspapers for many neighboring counties are available as well as the following on microfilm: Georgia Death Index, 1919-1994; Georgia Marriage Index, 1963-1992; and Georgia Divorce Index 1965-1994. An extensive Laurens County obituary file from The Courier Herald, Dublin’s daily newspaper, is available from the 1960s to present. An extensive book collection includes materials such as family histories, Georgia county histories, newspaper abstracts, Dublin, East Laurens, and West Laurens High School yearbooks, Dublin City directories, military abstracts, indexes for Revolutionary through Civil War, and land lottery records. Additionally search information on neighboring states including histories, census information and vital records data.
